Now that most of us have gone through at least one round of midterms, we have a new social event planned for November:

Bio-Physicists On Ice

Where: Burgoo, 4434 W. 10th Ave. (Dinner), Thunderbird Boulevard 6066 (Skating)
When: Friday, November 18 7:30pm - 10:45pm
Cost: For dinner, attendees pay for their own meal. Skating is free (with valid Student ID)

Our November event is Skating, come join us at Thunderbird Friday the
18. Bring your UBC card for free skating. Come join us for dinner (comfort food) at Burgoo before skating as well! Feel free to invite your friends!

If you can only come for the dinner (@ 7:30PM), or only skating (9:45 -10:45PM), that's fine!
It's not compulsory to attend both.

Second Lecture Series + Lab Tour

Who: Dr. Piotr Kozlowski, University of British Columbia
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: Room #1410, Life Science Building
Capacity: max. 15 people

Dr. Piotr Kozlowski is the Associate Director of the MRI Research Centre. His main research focus is in applying Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/MRS) technology in prostate cancer research and diagnosis and using a MR animal system and various tumor models to study the biology and physiology of prostate cancer. His research projects include vessel size imaging with MRI, measurements of tumour hypoxia, correlation between MRI & PET in studying tumour microenvironment, developing MRI techniques to study rat models of Spinal Cord Injury, and developing a novel MRI-based diagnostic technique (combination of Diffusion MRI and Contrast Enhanced Dynamic MRI) for prostate cancer.

Dim Sum & First Lecture Series + Lab Tour!

We have some new events for you guys to look forward to in October:

Grand Morning Dim-Sum Feast

Where: Golden Ocean (41st) or Sun Sui Wah (Main St.) TBD.
When: Saturday, October 22 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Cost: Money split based on the number of attendees

This event is for the grand morning feast, known as Dim Sum, UBC biophysics shall be having on the twenty second of October. What appears to be a wee Saturday morning will now start with a bang.

We will eat a superfluous amount.
We will eat like the men that have fought in the battle of the century.
We will unleash the monsters within us and let our stomachs speak our desires.
We shall drink, we shall fight, we shall make our ancestors proud.

Welcome Back & Website Launch

Hello everyone!

September is here again and we are all in for another school year!

This year the UBC Biophysics Student Society is proud to announce the launch of its new website. Some of the pages are still under construction at the moment therefore you may experience some connection errors. But no fear, everything is expected to be up and running in two weeks!

Just a reminder for some of our upcoming events:

Welcome Back BBQ (w/ Physsoc)

Where: Outside Hennings building, facing the IKB Learning Centre
When: 11am-2pm Friday, September 16th, 2011
Cost: $5 for non-members and $2 for members

Come out to the event to get to know some of the execs, socialize, and learn what Biophysics is all about! (All the while enjoying some yummy burgers) This will be the only event that we are accepting members so be sure to bring the $5 membership fee and sign up!
If you miss this event, please contact one of the execs and arrange to meet up to join the club.

BPSS Icebreaker

Where: TBA
When: 5pm-9pm Friday, September 16th, 2011

Join us for a night of games and fun! There will be taboo, board games, and other forms of entertainment! This is a great opportunity to get to know all the club members! Refreshments and food are provided.
